A lifelong student of beef cattle nutrition has had Wayne
immersed in a career tenure of 30 plus years working with
feed manufacturers and food producers spanning from Ontario
to BC. It’s a calling he did not take lightly as it shaped
and steered his life as a young boy growing up in an
industrialized city in Southwestern Ontario to present day
where he and his wife Edie own and operate their ranch in
the foothills of Alberta.
Skelton Cattle Co. raises registered polled Hereford
Breeding stock, and their genetics can be found across
Canada. Grand Champion Bull and Female Banners earned at the
Toronto Royal Winter Fair, Canadian Western Agribition and
the World Hereford Conference hang on his office wall along
with pictures of the fondly named winners such as
“Wideload”, “Jake” and “Joplin” to name a few.
With over 20 years as a beef feed specialist, continued
learning at the Meat Animal Research Center, Kansas State
University and Iowa Beef Center, and a chance meeting with
the editor from a Canadian agricultural publication had him
being asked to write and submit articles relating to beef
nutrition and management as he had learned to apply to his
customer market. Bovine reproduction, nutrition, and
management articles of his have been read by many.
